Bacterial Vaginosis Complications That Your Gynecologist Didn’t Tell You

Have you ever noticed that your visits to the medical doctor’s office are all the same?
You are asked what symptoms you have, a laboratory test is done; either blood, urine or a swab that is cultured. You’re then told what the problem is, and then you are given an antibiotic or other medication.
Have you also noticed that one thing is missing from this picture; any type of education about what disease you have or the side effects of the medication?
Medical doctors just don’t have the time to educate you on why you have a disease, how the disease progresses, what the side effects are of the medications you are prescribed, and what you can do yourself to intervene in the natural progression of the disease. Many people don’t understand this simple fact, and that’s why they remain enslaved to a life of dependence on a medical system that really doesn’t heal them and only puts a band-aid on their health issues.
And really now, why should doctors educate their patients?
Doctors spent thousands of dollars to get their education and their job is to diagnose and treat. It’s not to educate.
It’s time for you to break out of that system and take responsibility for your health. The way to do that is to get informed. Take some classes in anatomy and physiology, first aid, herbs, nutrition and even massage. Once you have the basic principles down, it’s easy to navigate your way through health issues in life. And the beauty of it all is that once you have the education, you have that knowledge for life.
When you have bacterial vaginosis, there are quite a few complications that your gynecologist won’t tell you.
Complications of Bacterial Vaginosis
If bacterial vaginosis is left untreated, you can develop health complications. Some of them are pretty bad! For example, the anaerobic bacteria can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, called PID for short. This can result in heavy scarring of the female reproductive tract organs, so severe that you can be left sterile! PID can also result in an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy, which means that the egg isn’t fertilized in the proper location where the fetus will grow properly.
Instead of the pregnancy occurring in the fallopian tube, the egg starts developing elsewhere. The fetus then grows outside the uterus and this puts pressure on the abdominal organs and can cause death! You can’t get more serious than that.
Bacterial vaginosis can and does interfere with the development of the fetus. Infants are born prematurely or are born with a low birth weight which leaves them susceptible to disease; not a great way to start off life!
The treatment of bacterial vaginosis with antibiotics can actually make the disorder worse! Studies show that treatments that are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have a high recurrence rate of up to 50% one month later. That means that it’s possible you will continue to use antibiotics every month for the rest of your life – unless you find another solution that is more effective.
Vulnerability to STD
Bacterial vaginosis makes it easier for you to contract sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, HIV, Chlamydia, and herpes. Once you get these diseases, you will have to take additional antibiotics and medications. Some of these STDs may be caused by strains that are antibiotic-resistant, and that means even more symptoms and health problems will result.
Fishy Odor
There’s a negative stigma associated with someone who has a smell coming from the vagina. In bacterial vaginosis, the fishy smell is strong enough for you to smell, and that means that if you can smell it, so can others. Many BV sufferers report that they feel as if people are talking behind their back; a feeling that doesn’t usually arise out of nowhere or without evidence that this is truly happening.
Change In Lifestyle
Your daily lifestyle changes when you have bacterial vaginosis. You’re most likely to discontinue riding your bicycle for cardio-fitness simply because this activity worsens the symptoms and the smell. You’ll naturally gravitate towards not having sexual intercourse with your mate, and it’s easy to understand the impact of this on a relationship. You’ll fret and worry about how to get over the disorder, and probably try many remedies that really don’t work. This alone can lead you to simply give up trying to find a solution, which then increases your risk of PID and other disorders.
